Abstract

Programs for youth development are based on youth strengths and environmental factors encouraging resilience. Individual meetings, discussion groups, and participatory analysis were the basis of this qualitative and participatory research. Findings indicate that participants found it relevant to integrate cultural and religious elements (like the local language and religious practices) into the implementation of this program, and that these elements created favourable conditions for community engagement. What’s more, it was possible to formalize and test the culture- and religion-informed approach to the studied program by combining source data. The authors felt that this study better defined evaluators’ responsibility in using culturally sensitive evaluation in their practice.
