Abstract

Over the past eight years, the Alcoholism and Drug Dependency Commission of New Brunswick, with the assistance of the School of Computer Science of the University of New Brunswick, has developed a sophisticated information retrieval system utilizing available resources (i.e., university research grants, graduate students in computer science, and existing software packages). We present the advantages of the research grant arrangement to both the sponsoring institution and the university, while pointing out some of the concerns that have been faced in the design of an information retrieval system.
